=============================================================== Advanced Engine Required: GZDoom v2.3.2 =============================================================== Title : Doom Gaiden - Insertion v1.3 Filename : gaiden.wad gaiden-automod.wad Author : Jay Reichard Email Address : silentzorah@gmail.com Misc. Author Info : Also known as Silent Zorah and Z. Valtero Description : Those dipshits at the UAC have done it again. Only, this time it isn't Deimos that's disappeared - A large chunk of the UAC base has vanished into the aether, and new, untold beasts have begun pouring out of the gates. If that weren't enough, the AA guns surrounding the facility prevent infiltrators from entering... Crap. Your insertion will be at a remote UAC outpost in scenic middle-of-fragging- nowhere Arizona. Find the Proto-Gate, plunge through, and hope it takes you to the facility. Good luck. Oh, one last thing. This is a suicide mission. You're the only one to accept it. Probably should have said that earlier. Temporary, just smash a whole bunch of lamps and it works fine. ================================================================ * Difficulty Settings * Doom Gaiden - Insertion features some new difficulty settings. Rather than affecting the spawn filters, these settings instead alter the scaling of the enemies' health and aggression, as well as the player's (that's YOU, numbnuts) damage scaler. Below are some details about the new difficulties. Easy: For children and grandmas. Enemies have 75% health, and you take 75% damage from all sources. Double ammo on pick ups. Normal: The way the mod was meant to be played. Equivalent to Ultra Violence. Hardcore: Designed for expert players. Enemies have 125% HP, and you take 125% damage from all sources. Enemies are 50% more aggressive. Necro: Designed for the suicidal. Enemies have a whopping 150% HP, you take 125% damage from all sources. Enemies are 100% more likely to shoot on sight, and don't stun when attacked. Cheats disabled, n00b. ================================================================ * The Weapons * Your arsenal in Doom Gaiden has received some upgrades. Look forward to picking up some new hardware. Here's a glimpse at what you're in for. Knife Type: Melee Ammo: None Damage: **** Speed: *** Range: * Description: Basic standard issue combat knife. Serrated combat knife specifically designed for ripping flesh. Hits twice per swing. Chainsaw Type: Melee Ammo: None Damage: **** Speed: ***** Range: * Description: Double the blades, double the gore. Pistol Type: Hitscan Ammo: Bullets Damage: ** Speed: *** Range: ** Description: Your trusty sidearm. A little less accurate than you remember. You'll need to find something better, and fast. Rifle Type: Hitscan Ammo: Bullets Damage: *** Speed: **** Range: ***** Description: Now this is more like it. Why snipe with a shotgun, when you can use something a little more accurate? Good damage and conservative ammo consumption. Shotgun Type: Hitscan Ammo: Shells Damage: **** Speed: ** Range: *** Description: Your old buddy, who served you well back on Phobos. Double Barrel Shotgun Type: Hitscan Ammo: Shells Damage: ***** Speed: * Range: ** Description: A double barrel, break action shotgun. Great for splattering faces. You know this already. Machine Gun Type: Hitscan Ammo: Bullets Damage: ** Speed: **** Range: *** Description: Fully automatic machine gun, good for close to medium range. Not as accurate as the rifle, so get in close if you want to save your ammo. Chaingun Type: Hitscan Ammo: Bullets Damage: *** Speed: ***** Range: *** Description: Someone had a growth spurt... While you were on Phobos, the UAC augmented the chaingun to fire higher caliber rounds and boast an insane rate of fire. Chews through ammo like crazy, though. Grenade Launcher Type: Projectile Ammo: Bullets Damage: ***** Speed: *** Range: *** Description: Ever wanted to bounce rockets around corners? Now you can. Rocket Launcher Type: Projectile Ammo: Bullets Damage: ***** Speed: *** Range: *** Description: When a grenade absolutely has to be on time to its destination. Plasma Rifle Type: Projectile Ammo: Cells Damage: **** Speed: **** Range: *** Description: The azure, burning plasma belching beast is back, and it now deals minor splash damage on hit. Ammo seems to be rather scarce, and the weapon itself is hidden in several locales... ================================================================ * The Enemies * It's not just your weapons that have received a few upgrades, it seems. The demons themselves have some new tactics to match your new firepower. Here's what we know about them. Trooper He's no more accurate than before, but is a little more aggressive with that trigger finger of his. Sergeant He's none too happy about his buddies getting murdered by yourself on Phobos. He fires, cocks his shotgun, and fires again. Corporal ...And the sergeants brought in some NCOs to help them deal with you. Armed with machine guns, these bastards have itchy trigger fingers and a knack for accuracy. Commando The commandos have gotten their hands on the UAC's improved chaingun models, and they're ready to ventilate your head. Make these guys top priority on your hit list. Imp No longer satisfied with just hurling fireballs over long distances, these bastards will jump at you if you get too close. Demon The years of not being able to gnaw on your flesh has gotten to the pinkies, and their tolerance for pain has gone way down. Put a bullet or two in them, and they may just leap at you out of pure rage. Mech Demon Just as hungry as their pink bretheren, these mechanical beasts have hydraulic jaws ready to split your spine in two. Revenant Shoot homing fireballs, they said. It'll be great, they said. After his past failures to annihilate you, the revenant has armed himself with homing rockets. And yes, they hurt. Mancubus Fatty's still pissed about what you did at the starport. He's ready to flatten you by changing the directions he fires at you. Arachnotron MKII A second plasma cannon? Well that's just fragging perfect. Hell Knight With a shorter temper, Hell Knights are more likely to chuck a second fireball in your direction. Baron of Hell He's sick of your shit, after hearing what happened at the Phobos Anomaly. These beasts will clap their claws together for a devastating spread attack! Cyber Baron What's worse than a Baron of Hell in close quarters? Answer: One with a prosthetic rocket launcher for an arm. The Annihilator He's a Cyberdemon, but we don't know much else than that. All we know is, he's pissed, and he's got double the firepower you've seen on Deimos. And he appears to be guarding the Proto-Gate... ================================================================ * Tips and Tricks * * If the text on-screen looks funny to you, scale it to your resolution and it will look fine. You can find the option under HUD Options -> Messages -> Scale Text In High Res. * Know which weapons are semi-automatic and which ones aren't. You can't fire a pistol repeatedly by holding the trigger. Learn the weapons' timing and master them if you want to stand a chance. * Use cover. Don't be afraid to jump over or crouch under obstacles to get your shit out of harm's way. It's there in ZDoom - Use it. * If your health is below 25%, hold still for five seconds to heal back up to 25%. You're still gonna need a bandage for that gunshot wound, though. * Grenades can bounce off walls and on the floors of the facility, only exploding on contact with enemies. Use the Grenade Launcher to trash enemies around corners before they even get a good shot at you. * Windows may be bulletproof, but they do give you a heads up on what's in the next room. Pay attention, and arm accordingly. * Explore a little. You might find something useful if you look in the right places. * Don't try sniping with the pistol or automatic weapons. Your first shots do NOT have 100% accuracy. * Don't gripe if you die too much. Doom Gaiden is designed to be challenging, and is not for the weak. ================================================================ * Credits * Here be the names of people who I shamelessly borrowed resources from.
